NCCs can show their areas of specialty with:
CCMHC
Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor
MAC
Masters Addictions Counselor
NCSC
National Certified School Counselor
These certifications show that a counselor has met national standards for a specialty, including additional education and experience requirements and a speciality examination.
NCCs may demonstrate areas of practice through one of the specialty certifications: the Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC) and the National Certified School Counselor (NCSC). These certifications show that a counselor has met national standards for specialty practice, including additional education, experience and continuing education requirements. The Master Addictions Counselor (MAC) certification is currently under review and is unavailable at this time.
The NCC is a prerequisite for all specialty certifications offered by NBCC. To apply for either the CCMHC or NCSC, log on to your Credentialing Gateway account and click on “Available Applications.”
